Product FAQs

What are SIPs?

Structural insulated panels (SIPs) are a high performance building system for residential and commercial construction. The panels consist of an insulating foam core sandwiched between two structural facings, typically oriented strand board (OSB).

SIPs are manufactured under factory controlled conditions and can be fabricated to fit any building design. The result is a building system that is extremely strong, energy efficient and cost effective. Building with SIPs will save you time, money and labour.

Are your SIPs panels approved?

A full range of testing has been conducted by several accredited test houses to determine the structural, thermal and fire-resistant properties of the panel in different applications.

The test data is currently being validated by the BBA.

How much faster can I build with SIPs?

Panels are pre-cut in our factory and delivered to the site ready for assembly. The accurate pre-cutting of SIPs panels saves time, by drastically reducing on site building time. By using SIPs, on-site construction time can typically be reduced by up to three times. As the SIP wall is both load-bearing and pre-insulated, the structural shell is completed much quicker than traditional methods of construction. Erection times are known in advance therefore SIP technology offers an accurate delivery dates.

How much money can I save with SIPs?

The cost of any home or building is dependent upon each individual design, specification and site specific conditions. Costs vary according to the method of construction used but correctly installed SIPS can save as much as 30% on building costs.

Where can I buy your SIPs panels?

Standard sized SIPs panels or pre-fabricated panelised walls can be ordered from Marley Modular Systems™ and supplied direct to your building site or delivery location.

How green are SIPS?

Structural insulated panels are one of the most environmentally responsible building systems available. A SIP building envelope provides continuous insulation, is extremely airtight, allows for better control over indoor air quality, reduces construction waste, and helps save natural resources. Life cycle analysis has shown that SIP homes have a tremendously positive environmental impact by reducing energy use and greenhouse gas emissions throughout the buildings' life cycle.

How strong are SIPS?

The load bearing ability of a SIP relies on the strong bonding between the OSB layers and the insulation core which it is formed by the self-adhesive PIR foam. The SIP component interacts in a similar way to the web and flanges of an I beam where the OSB boards act as flanges by taking compression and tension forces, while the core spaces them apart, providing the construction thickness and shear stiffness. The structural ability of the composite SIPS panel is well above the performance requirements for low-rise residential and light industrial buildings

How do SIPS improve indoor air quality?

The air tightness of a SIPS building envelope prevents air from gaining access to the interior of the home except in controlled amounts. A controlled indoor environment is both healthy and comfortable. Humidity can be controlled more easily in a SIP home, resulting in a home that is more comfortable for occupants and less prone to mold growth and dust mites. Due to the air tightness of the building envelope that it is provided by the SIP construction system, a mechanical ventilation and heat recovery (MVHR) unit is recommended.

What style of houses can be built with SIPs?

All styles are possible from large detached 3-4 storey homes to smaller semi-detached bungalows.
